“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth.”

Many in the world are familiar with Christ's sermon on the Mount (I love the thought that Christ and his disciples climbed (akyat!) up a mountainside to receive this pivotal doctrine!), however, recently in my study, I learned of another translation that is helpful to me:

"Blessed are the DISCIPLINED, for they shall inherit the Earth. "

The greek word for meek is "Praeis" which might be mean something more closely to tamed or disciplined.

An idea I learned about recently, and like, is the idea that God asks us to be harness and bridal ourselves. Like the roaring Niagra Falls, when it is tamed or disciplined to focus its energy into turbines, it can create energy that will power most of the eastern seaboard!

Likewise, as we harness and tame ourselves, and become more "Gentle, forgiving, benevolent (the Hebrew in Ps. 37.11 characterizes meek the humble those who have suffered" - Footnote to Matt 5:5

As you and I surrender to God and discipline ourselves and tame the natural man, and become meek, we "shall delight...in the abundance of peace and inherit the earth." (Ps 37:11).

meek: gentle, forgiving, benevolent, enduring all things with an even temple, tender, free from haughty self-sufficiency, tender of spirit, the humble who have suffered

"Meekness is not an attribute which is essential only in itself, said Moroni. It is also vital because one cannon develop other crucial virtues -- faith, hope, and charity--without meekness." - Neal Maxwell

Meekness is often the initiator, facilitator, and consolidator

how vital is this virtue? "none is acceptable before God, save the meek and lowly in heart." (Moro. 7:37-44)
